I make sense of my environment through the act of disruption and displacement: by taking things apart; by flipping them around; by mirroring, de-familiarizing, displacing; by looking at every aspect of a thing in order to see what it’s about. The juxtaposition of materials is a key element of my work. I approach rooms and materials with a light touch, setting up a series of relationships or phrases instead of statements or sentences. I blur the line between interior and exterior, decorative and utilitarian, so that my work operates in a space of partial disorientation, prolonging the moment before the eye and the mind can adjust to alterations that have been made to the environment. |
