Q: Why would I become a registered user of the Curated Artist Registry?
A:

The main benefit of being a registered user is you will be able to keep track of all the artists you find interesting during your search. For curators this is a great way to curate exhibitions. For artists it is a great way to keep track of your peers. If you are a collector you can now track artists and artworks you are interested in and see the development of the artists work as they update their images.

To become a registered user is incredibly simple and only take a few minutes. Just click on “Personal Artist List” on the introduction page. This is a yellow/green box on the upper right hand side of the page. Just fill in your name and email address and you may be a user. You may fill out additional information but it is not required to so, although it does help us understand who is using the registry and how we can cater to their needs.

Q: How do I begin searching the registry?
A: You begin searching by using the toolbar “Registry Search Options” on the introduction page. Just click either “Medium”, “Genre”, or “Location” and then hit the “submit” button. This will take you to the results page. There may be many results or just a few. If there are more than nine artists in your result you will have to use the arrow buttons to view additional pages

Q: How do I find a specific artist I would like to see?
A:

To find a particular artist by name you may click on the appropriate box next to “All Artist’s Alphabetically” and scroll down for the artist you are looking for. You may also click the Advanced Features and using the key word search locate the artist you are trying to find. If both results come up negative the artist may still be in our in-house registry and they have simply chosen not to have work on-line.

To find out just email info@whitecolumns.org and let us know the artist you are looking for.

Q: Why can’t I view my images?
A:

If you are having problems viewing images it could be one of two things. First you may have an outdated flash player. If you have an outdated flash player you should update it. It is free to upgrade your flash player.

Second, you may be able to view the images but it is taking a really long time. This site is created for high speed connections such as DSL and cable. We have found that dial up connections such as 56K have difficulty uploading images fast enough to make the site user friendly.

If you have an updated flash player and you are using a high speed connection and you still can not view the images please email us at info@whitecolumns.org and put “viewing problem” in the subject line.

Q: Why can’t I submit digital images to White ColumnsWhy can’t I submit digital images to White Columns?
A:

You currently cannot submit digital images, web links or CD ROMS for consideration for the Curated Artist Registry. If you want your work considered for the registry you must submit slides or DVD.

To find out the guidelines for submission please click on “submission” on the above toolbar. One element of the registry is digital and we will be taking digital submission in the fall of 2004.

If you would like to know when we will begin taking digital submissions via our web site, please join our email list. You may join our email list by clicking on “contacts” in the above toolbar and follow the directions to join for free.

Q: Why after I have logged in to my page in the registry does it tell me that there is a “security violation”?
A:

This issue seems to arise when you do not have your “cookies” enable.

Just enable your “cookies” and try again.

If you still have problems please contact us at info@whitecolumns.org and write a detailed description of your problem.

Q: How many images can I have on my gallery page?
A:

You may have up to 15 images in your gallery page in the registry.

Q: Why can’t I get my images to load?
A:

The program that formats your images will only accept jps, jpeg, bitmap and gif files, any other file types will not upload.

Q: What is the maximum size an image can be?
A:

A program will format your images for you but if you want them at the largest format the maximum size for an image is: 447 pixels wide and 350 pixels high. For the fasted upload it is recommended that your images are 72 dpi.

Q: Why are the thumbnails images distorted?
A:

If your image is not the maximum size for the gallery page your thumbnail may be distorted. This exaggeration is most noticeable in vertical images.

If you want to avoid the distortion please make a box in Photoshop that is 447 pixels wide and 350 pixels high that is white.

Next drop your image into the box, or format your image so it fits into the box.

Then save this newly generated file as the file for the registry. This will help ease any distortion that may occur.

Q: Why can’t I log in?
A:

Your user name is your full email. Example: artist@hotmail.com you must enter your full email to have access to your page.

If you can not remember your password you may click the reminder button and your email will be sent to you.

Q: How do I change my email address?
A:

You must email info@whitecolumns.org to change your email address. Please write why you are emailing in your message
