Charles Gute is a Brooklyn-based artist and editor. He has been awarded artist fellowships from the San Francisco Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and has twice been a MacDowell Colony Visual Arts Fellow. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum; Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn, Germany; the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Catharine Clark Gallery, San Francisco; Feinkost Gallery, Berlin; and Jason Rulnick Gallery, New York. A book of his "Revisions and Queries" series was published by The Ice Plant, Los Angeles, in fall 2008. In the summer of 2009 he presented a large-scale outdoor work at Socrates Sculpture Park in New York, and in 2010 he was a VLA Art & Law Residency Fellow. In fall 2011 he mounted a two-person exhibition with Christian Jankowski called "Scripts for Art" at Walden Affairs, Den Haag, The Netherlands. Specially commissioned artist’s projects by Gute were featured in recent issues of Frieze, Flash Art, Art Lies and other publications.
